Stress can lead to overeating but taking ashwagandha, an herb known for reducing stress and anxiety, can help. A study of 52 people under chronic stress compared the effects of a placebo and 300 mg of a standardized ashwagandha root extract, taken twice daily, for 8 weeks. Those taking the herb felt less stressed, experienced fewer food cravings, and felt happier. Researchers, writing in the Journal of Evidence-Based Complementary & Alternative Medicine, concluded, “The outcome of this study suggests that ashwagandha root extract can be used for body weight management in adults under chronic stress.”
