Taking 1,000 mg of Aged Garlic Extract (Kyolic) daily slows down buildup of calcium in coronary arteries, and lowers blood pressure in people at risk for heart disease, according to a study of 161 people at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, Calif. Results of the one-year study were presented at a scientific conference of the American College of Cardiology. “These new findings provide cardiologists and internists with an additional tool for patients who are at a high risk of cardiovascular disease,” said study co-author Matthew Budoff, MD, adding: “It also gives patients with mild to moderate cardiovascular disease a proactive way to reduce those risk factors.”
