Average length of time between a prescription drug killing someone and that drug being withdrawn from the marketplace, according to research at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. The study, published in BMC Medicine, also found that 400 drugs were withdrawn between 1957 and 2011, because they were dangerous, and 95 of these had caused deaths.
Premature deaths stemming from lack of physical activity are double those due to obesity. Regardless of body weight, as little as 20 minutes of walking daily can reduce risk and improve health, according to a study of more than 330,000 European women and men, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
That’s the daily sodium limit-equivalent to half a teaspoon of salt-medically recommended for adults over age 50. Not only is it very difficult to achieve, but recent research, published in JAMA Internal Medicine, found that this limit is actually linked with a shorter life. The study looked at 2,642 women and men for 10 years, and found that those who ate more salt-1,500 to 2,300 mg, which is between one-half and one teaspoon daily-lived longer than those who ate less, or more.
