Among people at risk for diabetes and heart disease, chronic inflammation drives the development of full-blown disease, but curcumin can slow down the process, according to research published in Clinical Nutrition. In a study of 117 people at such high risk, half were given 1 gram daily of a proprietary form of curcumin (Curcumin C3 Complex), and the others were given a placebo. Blood tests showed that the curcumin significantly reduced chronic inflammation and was an effective antioxidant. The ingredient tested in the study, Curcumin C3 Complex, is found in a variety of supplement brands.
