Long flights make it easy for viruses and bacteria to spread, increasing risk for colds. But elderberry can reduce the discomfort. A study of 312 economy passengers in Australia, whose flights lasted at least 7 hours, found that two to three 300mg daily doses of a standardized elderberry extract decreased the severity and duration of colds. The herb has strong antioxidant, antibacterial, and antiviral properties. Research results were presented at the 21st Annual International Integrative Medicine Conference in Melbourne, Australia.
