The omega-3 fats in fish oil reduce cravings for nicotine, according to an Israeli study published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology. In a group of 48 smokers, half received a placebo while the other half took a high-dose daily fish oil supplement with 2,710 mg EPA and 2,040 mg DHA. After one month, those taking fish oil had fewer cigarette cravings, even when exposed to common triggers. And, one month after stopping supplementation, cravings in the fish-oil group were still lower than at the outset.
