A special mushroom extract, AHCC (active hexose correlated compound) can eradicate human papillomavirus (HPV), according to a study at Texas Health Science Center at Houston. The most common sexually transmitted virus in the United States, HPV is associated with more than 99 percent of cervical cancers; at least half of anal, oropharyngeal, vaginal, and vulvar cancers; and 35 percent of penile cancers. There is no effective drug to treat it. In the study, researchers gave 10 HPV-positive women AHCC daily for six months, at which time, eight tested negative and two continued to take the supplement. AHCC enhances the body’s natural ability to fight infection.
