Low bone density can make a man get shorter, and look and feel older than he really is. But resveratrol, the beneficial nutrient in red wine, can help to prevent and even reverse the condition. In a study of 66 middle-aged men with belly fat and elevated risk for heart disease, Danish researchers found that during a period of four months, resveratrol increased bone density in the spine and improved a marker of overall bone formation. The effective dose used in the study, which was published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, was 500 mg of resveratrol, twice daily.
