Best Organic Buys
What are the Best Organic Buys?
Despite its popularity, organic food often costs more than conventional versions. Knowing which conventional foods are highest in pesticide residues-and thus the most important to buy organic-can save you money while also reducing toxins in your food. That's easier to do with the Dirty Dozen list from the non-profit Environmental Working Group. Compiled once a year, it's based on USDA and FDA pesticide tests of more than 35,000 samples of 48 common vegetables and fruits.
Here's the latest list of the top 12 high-pesticide fruits and vegetables:
- Strawberries
- Apples
- Nectarines
- Peaches
- Celery
- Grapes
- Cherries
- Spinach
- Tomatoes
- Sweet bell peppers
- Cherry tomatoes
- Cucumbers
