Makes about 1 cup

This powerful formula is based on herbs that boost energy, improve stamina, and increase mental alertness. Green tea and yerba mate form the base, with gentle doses of caffeine to enhance energy. Schisandra acts as an adaptogen to help the body better cope with energy-sapping stress. If you can find dried licorice root slices, substitute them for licorice root extract; simmer them in hot water for 15 minutes, then strain and use the hot water to brew the teas. (If you suffer from high blood pressure, check with your health care provider before using this formula, as licorice can aggravate high blood pressure.)
12 Tbs. loose yerba mate, or 4 tea bags
2 Tbs. loose green tea, or 4 tea bags
2 droppers licorice root tincture
2 droppers Schisandra tincture
2 droppers ashwagandha tincture
2 Tbs. raw, unfiltered honey
- Bring 1 1/2 cups water to a boil. Put yerba mate in teapot, and add boiling water; let steep 3 minutes. Add green tea and steep for 3 minutes longer. Strain mixture into glass jar, and discard leaves.
- Add licorice root, Schisandra, ashwagandha, and honey. Stir to mix well. Let cool completely, then cover and chill before using. To use, take 2 Tbs. twice a day. Store for up to 1 week in refrigerator.
