Açai Makes the Perfect Warm Weather Treat
Açai, a purple superfruit from the Amazon, is too perishable to transport, but is available in the U.S. in the form of frozen pulp-a perfect summer treat with bonus benefits. A study of 35 women, published in the journal Nutrition, found that 200 grams of açai pulp daily (1 or 2 servings, depending on the product) significantly increased their internal antioxidant production, which helps protect cells against damage from free radicals.

But the best part? Antioxidant-rich açai makes a delicious, healthy alternative to traditional warm-weather treats. Try blending a packet of frozen açai with a little coconut water or juice to create a soft, ice-cream-style dessert (add more fruit or a natural sweetener, if desired). Keep adding more coconut water, and you’ve got a yummy milkshake substitute. Or just have a dish of açai sorbet, which is available in a variety of flavors.
