Over-the-counter antacids that contain aspirin, such as Alka-Seltzer, Bromo Seltzer, and others, can cause serious bleeding. Safe, natural alternatives for indigestion and heartburn include deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL), taken 15-30 minutes before meals; apple cider vinegar mixed in water, taken before meals or when discomfort occurs; digestive enzymes taken with meals; and a daily probiotic supplement.
