confused about the science behind nutritional recommendations, according to a survey of more than 3,000 people by DSM, a company that makes dietary supplement ingredients. Although most people are familiar with vitamins D and E, only half are familiar with the beneficial omega-3 fats in fish oil: EPA and DHA.

San Francisco is the first city in the nation to pass a city law requiring
warnings on ads for sodas and other sugary drinks, noting that they contribute to obesity, tooth decay, and diabetes. The new law applies to ads on billboards, buses, taxis, and walls within city limits. The idea is to educate consumers, hopefully leading to healthier choices.

That’s the average increase in resting metabolism-the rate at
which you burn calories while doing nothing-after a nine-month weight-training program, according to a study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Weight training worked all the major muscle groups, between two and three times per week. Exact increases in metabolism varied among individuals.
