Sweet cherries and the pine scent of rosemary make this an ideal dessert for a summer dinner party on the patio. The recipe can be doubled for larger crowds.
Ingredients
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 sprigs fresh rosemary, broken into 2-inch pieces
- 3 Tbs. maple syrup
- 2 10-oz. bags frozen, pitted organic dark sweet cherries
Preparation
- Place buttermilk, rosemary, and maple syrup in heavy saucepan over medium-low heat. Adjust heat so that mixture does not boil. Stir and heat through 10–15 minutes to allow rosemary to permeate buttermilk. Strain, and set aside to cool.
- Place buttermilk mixture and cherries in food processor. Blend 1–2 minutes, until mixture smooths out. Stir, and blend again to form a soft, thick, frozen slurry. You will see flecks of cherry in dark red ice cream. Serve immediately in individual bowls.
