Smoked Red Lentil Soup

This soup is hearty enough as a meal. It features Smoked Maple Salmon bars from EPIC ( Vadouvan Spice Mix is available at

*Vadouvan Spice Mix is essentially a curry powder blended with spices popular in French cooking, such as grated shallots.


  • 3 Tbs. olive oil   

  • 1 medium yellow onion, peeled & chopped   

  • 2 tsp. Whole Spice Vadouvan Spice Mix*   

  • 1 quart organic chicken broth    

  • 2 cups water   

  • 1 cup red lentils

  • 2 carrots, peeled and chopped

  • 2 EPIC Smoked Maple Salmon bars, shredded with box grater   

  • 2 Tbs. Meyer lemon juice   

  • Salt & pepper to taste   


  1. In large pot, heat olive oil over medium-low heat, add onion, and sauté until translucent, about 4 minutes. Add Vadouvan spice and cook, stirring, 2 minutes more.
  2. Add broth, water, lentils, carrots, and shredded salmon bars. Heat to simmer, and cook until lentils are firm-soft but not mushy, about 20 minutes.
  3. Remove 2 cups of soup, purée in food processor, and return to pot. Stir in lemon juice, and add salt and pepper to taste.
